Tuckman's Stages of Group Development

This was by far one of my favorite blog assignments because I love watching any form of Disney! :)

Here is what I thought that each clip pertained to:

Clip One (Coach Carter): Norming because of the quote "We're all doing this together!". Seeing the players work together to help someone else out who was in conflict not only resolved the conflict but involved cohesion around shared goals.

Clip Two (Aladdin): Adjourning because after the genie was let out from granting wishes and his lamp, he was free to be his own person. But this was a bittersweet moment because of the fact that Aladdin would not see him very much anymore. There was definitely a feeling of loss in that tear jerking moment.

Clip Three (Remember the Titans): Storming because the two players were butting heads about how to run the team and there was some negativity in the air a midst the football player's sweat. This is my favorite movie of all times and I love this scene because it is basically the storm before the calm, after the players get out all of their differences they end up working together towards a championship! It is a movie that gets me everytime.

Clip Four (Nemo): Performing because Nemo and his fishy friends were definitely putting their plans into action to work together to get Nemo back to his dad. There were great examples of teamwork and leadership when Gil sacrificed himself to help Nemo. He organized and carried out an effective plan to save the little fishy. This is a great example of fish being friends and not food.

Clip Five (Mulan):

Forming because Mulan is trying to find her place in the world of the warriors and fails before actually understanding it. But we see the tasks that she needs to accomplish and we see the leaders emerging in order to get those tasks done.

  1. Such a solid video choice. I love how everyone thinks of different videos, but somehow all the videos still makes sense for formation. Plus this song just rocks.

  2. Definitely one of the best clips I've seen. Although I got a different answer for forming, I really like the "why" for you picking "I'll make a man out of you." Especially since you're right, she's just beginning to know her skill-set and place in the world.
$10 says this song will now be in my head all day! and totally ok with that!
